Little Maplestead was mentioned in Domesday Book in 1086. In 1185 the village and church were given to the Knights Hospitallers by Julian Fitz- Audelin).
The Knights then built a new Round Church around 1335 (left) and a hospital. This is an unusual and historic church due to its circular design.
